Experiential Data through Ceramics
Multi-Sensory Data
A set of ceramic plates acts as a participatory art piece exploring the emotional process of home loss caused by the 2012 Waldo Canyon Fire. Using qualitative research methods we synthesize data into a series of colors and textures. The data is sourced from a series of interviews, and story and art activities conducted both with victims of home loss and unaffected participants. Through physical interaction with the work participants are able to feel the data and rearrange the plates in any order that they feel appropriately describes the grieving process.
This method of data communication is designed to start conversations and inspire participants to engage emotionally with the work. While the work does not have the precision of digital methods it aims to more wholly capture attention and compassion.
